Sketch Of The Week July 15/09

baby control copy

Yet another hump day, which means another Sketch of the Week!  This week’s themes are: what people are telling me my life will be like after the baby is born, What the baby will look like in the future (via jiggys request), and a self portrait.

First off this is not what I envision for my future. This is merely a comment on what everyone keeps telling me life will be like after B-day.  The standard line so far is “your life will be horrible because of this” then followed by the “but it’s the greatest thing ever”.  Unfortunately most people don’t sell the “best thing ever” line as much as they sell the first part.

This illustration will probably end up being the only one of my illustrations that becomes famous and art historians will talk about how this symbolizes my deepest fears and why they suspect I was secretly gay.  I’m sure Chris will say he always suspected this anyways.  That being said I think next week will be how I envision life after B-day.

Now on to the sketch. This one was done quicker than most, due to lack of time.  But I think it came out pretty good anyways.  One thing I do like is the ingenuity of the cable pulls that make me into a puppet.  The placement of “tiny E” (my future son) reminds me a lot of the dwarf/midget (whichever is the PC version) from Mad Max beyond thunder dome.  “Who rules barter town?” I also made myself wicked huge because that’s what I will look like in the near future.

O and my major knock on this sketch is that Tiny-E’s face is very generic.  I’ll make up for that next week.  As always let me know what you think about this week and what I should do for next week.

Thanks

A

  1. You know me, i’m not one for the whole “kids” business, but i don’t think your life is going to be horrible. I think it’s going to be a challenge getting use to everything, but you and Charity are going to be great parents and I think the both of you will do fine.

Now if you had had a girl, i would retract my statement and tell you to run for the hills, because this is what you COULD have been living thru:

onto the drawing! I love the control chip on the side of your head, and lil Ethan looks so adorable pulling all your strings. Also when did you start taking steroids? Or was it from all the baby lifting? Great job man =)

  2. Either Cool Etahn or Blaster Master are sweet. Great concept. I like these sketches that have a lot of personality. Life does not suck after B-Day. People that say that are wieners. As for the actual sketch I was surprised that you can not see your old balls. That is the real sucky part of old age. I sat on my nuts twice yesterday, and fifty-seven times since turning thirty. It really blows. Not having a tiny human that dominates you. Besides in four years he’ll be getting a job and moving on.

Also, your unborn son called me and before his phone died after 15 min he said that while the quicker, less refined, and more energetc sketch is really great, you still suck.

    I agreed.

    This drawing is sweet, but for next week themes;

baseball (the all-star game was yesterday)
civil war weaponry (antiquey but super deadly)
    and unicorns (no explanation neccessary)

    are all viable themes

  3. Yes i’m looking forward to the dad dong. Also those videos were perfect for Wendog seeing how as of last month he has the life of a teenage girl to look forward to.

I agree i always like the rough sketches more. They always have more energy to them.
